HFSA Supports and Helped Develop the New Uniform Application and Selection Process for Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Applicants

  • As part of the Medical Specialties Matching Program.
  • Based on input from national AHFTC programs and recent fellowship applicants
  • Intended to level the playing field for both applicants and programs
  • A standardized application process via ERAS (link)
  • A uniform Match Day. Applicants will be notified where their fellowship will be (there will be no program offers or fellowship acceptances)
  • Eliminates potential pressure to sign early with a  program that might not be one’s first choice
  • Flexibility for programs to commit early to their internal applicants. However, program cannot expect a reciprocal response (ex. coercive)
  • All listed training positions are ACGME certified

Guidance for Programs – ERAS (July 2020 Cycle)

ADVICE/GUIDANCE FOR PROGRAMS

Advice/Guidance for Programs:

Stipulations:

  • “All-in Policy”: Programs must place all their funded, ACGME-accredited positions in the match to participate
  • Across all programs, 75% of funded ACGME-approved positions must be placed in the match
  • 75% of available ACGME positions that are funded and intend to be filled for each program are placed into the match
  • Exact Match Day for AHFTC will be the same as for other specialties (not yet known)
  • Programs can tell an applicant that they are being “ranked to match”, but cannot ask applicants about their ranking plans/intentions (doing so is a reportable violation)
  • More positions outside of match jeopardizes the integrity of the match
  • Programs planning to participate cannot offer positions outside the Match prior to program director registration and program activation. If a position is offered outside the match prior to program registration and activation, the program is ineligible to enroll. Read more about the NRMP  “All In Policy” >>

HFSA Endorsement of AHFTC Fellowship Programs

  • To be Endorsed by the HFSA, program must participate in the ERAS/NRMP synchronized match for the upcoming  July 2020 cycle
  • Endorsement required to be on HFSA AHFTC website with link to program
  • Must be participating in ERAS and NRMP, “all-in”
  • No NRMP Match violations
  • Positions accredited by ACGME and approved by institutional GME office
  • If you already have a mutual binding agreement with a program for an AHFTC fellowship position for July 2020, that is not obtained through the ERAS/Match process, there is no need to submit an application through ERAS as the contract should be sufficient to guarantee your position
